Review on The Swan Inn
The Swan Inn is a charming wisteria-clad gastro pub located in tranquil Denham, close to the M25 and M40: it's an ideal venue if you are looking to temporarily escape the rat race or re-charge the batteries during a tiring journey.
Local, free-range and organic produce are used to good effect and the seasonal menu divides up into 'small plates' (popular with the ladies who lunch) and 'main meals'. One dish that has stayed on the menu from day one is oak-smoked bacon on bubble 'n' squeak with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
Otherwise try warm crispy duck salad with egg noodles, smoked haddock rarebit with turnip gratin and mustard sauce or braised shoulder of lamb parcel with parsnip mash and Madeira jus. Char-grilled ribeye steaks and calf's liver are also big sellers, the specials board changes every session and desserts might include spiced pear with frangipan tart and spotted dick with custard.
The wine list is a well-chosen collection of keenly priced all-European bottles, with everything offered by the glass.
